Andrew was born early at 34 weeks. He is a twin. He was born with a severe heart defect, called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Andrew was born with just his right ventricle, and has only two chambers. He has had two major heart surgeries, with another expected in spring/summer 2010. Andrew's first heart surgery involved being off the heart and lung machine with no blood flow, in a hypothermic state, for 42 minutes. Andrew was also born with a cleft lip and has strabismus and amblyopia.

Andrew was diagnosed with 10q a few months after birth, as was his twin Joey.

Andrew is doing very well. He is delayed in reaching milestones. He is 21 months old, and says a few words (mom, dad, no). He signs a few additional words. He can craw and pull himself to stand. He can walk while holding furniture and push toys. He has been working with a physical therapist since he was about 10 months old.
